Approved shoppers can split purchases, such as electronics and household goods, into monthly installments with fixed, disclosed payment schedules. Affirm's disclosures give one example: a $400 purchase with an $80 down payment, followed by 12 monthly payments of $28.88 at 15% APR, or four interest-free payments of $100 every two weeks. In the 12-month example, the total comes to about $426.56, or about $26.56 in interest, by our calculation. Options vary by purchase amount and merchant, and eligibility is determined at checkout.

What Affirm said

Affirm Chief Revenue Officer Wayne Pommen said, "Making every dollar count shouldn't stop at checkout," adding that shoppers know what they will owe and can choose a plan that fits their lives. Affirm said it never charges late fees, and that its loans are made by lending partners, since Affirm is not a bank.
