Why Datadog Fell 14% After a Q3 Beat: A Flat Q4 Guide and a Largest-Customer Question

Revenue grew 35% and adjusted EPS beat by 17 cents, but fourth-quarter guidance points to flat sequential revenue and assumes the largest customer spends only its contractual minimum.

Datadog (DDOG) fell 14.42% to close at $188.72 on Nov. 4 after reporting third-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.20 billion, up 35% from a year earlier and above the roughly $1.14 billion estimate, and adjusted EPS of $0.81 against $0.64 expected. The selloff followed fourth-quarter revenue guidance of $1.19 billion to $1.20 billion, which is roughly flat with the third quarter, and an outlook that assumes its largest customer spends only its contractual minimum.

Revenue was $885.7 million a year earlier. Non-GAAP EPS was $0.55 and non-GAAP operating income was $207.4 million. GAAP net income rose to $118.3 million from $33.9 million. Operating cash flow was $290.0 million, up from $251.5 million, and the company held about $5.2 billion in cash and marketable securities.

Why the stock fell: the fourth-quarter guide

Fourth-quarter guideRangeQ3 2026 actualMidpoint change

Non-GAAP operating income$280M-$290M$334.3M▼ 14.7%
Non-GAAP EPS$0.69-$0.71$0.81▼ 13.6%

The revenue range implies 25% to 26% growth from a year earlier, slower than the 35% in the third quarter. The operating income guide implies a margin of about 24%, against 28% in Q3. Management said sequential growth from the third to the fourth quarter is usually smaller because of late-December seasonality, such as code freezes and holidays, and that the guidance reflects recent trends with built-in conservatism. The full-year revenue guide rose to $4.515 billion to $4.525 billion from $4.45 billion to $4.47 billion, about $60 million at the midpoint.

The largest-customer question

  • Usage and renewal. Management said the largest customer cut its usage in Q3 but stayed above its minimum commitment, and that it has renewed.
  • Guidance assumption. The fourth-quarter guide assumes that customer's revenue equals its contractual minimum, so any spending above that would be an upside to guidance. Management declined to say how much of Q3's beat came from the customer.
  • Excluding the customer. Management said revenue growth excluding the largest customer accelerated again, with implied Q4 growth in the low-to-mid 30% range.
  • Early renewals. Several large customers renewed early at better pricing, which management called a short-term revenue headwind with volume expected to grow afterward.

The stock has now fallen after two straight quarterly beats. In August, shares dropped sharply after Datadog disclosed the largest customer's planned cutback.

Customers paying $100,000 or more generate about 91% of annual recurring revenue. Operating cash flow was $290.0 million, and the trailing 12-month free cash flow margin was 26%. Management noted collection timing causes quarterly variability.

Growth and AI momentum

  • Retention. Trailing 12-month net revenue retention was in the low 120% range, similar to last quarter, and gross revenue retention was in the mid-to-high 90% range.
  • Non-AI growth. Revenue growth from non-AI customers accelerated for a fifth straight quarter, to the high-20% range.
  • AI customers. More than 850 AI customers use Datadog, up from about 750 last quarter, and 39 of them spend more than $1 million a year.
  • Scout 1.0. Datadog introduced Scout 1.0, its first specialized model for investigating production issues, in Preview. It powers Bits Investigation.

What to watch

  • Q4 delivery. Whether revenue lands above the $1.19 billion to $1.20 billion range if the largest customer spends above its minimum.
  • Ex-customer growth. Whether growth excluding the largest customer holds in the low-to-mid 30% range.
  • Pricing. How much early renewals at better pricing weigh on revenue in coming quarters.
  • Margin. Whether non-GAAP operating margin returns toward 28% after the guided dip to about 24% in Q4.
